About DocuSmartly
DocuSmartly is a free, privacy-first PDF toolkit. You can compress, merge, split, sign and convert PDFs, and most of it happens inside your own browser, so the file never leaves your device. Here is why it exists, and who built it.
Hi, I'm Pallavi Varshney, the founder of DocuSmartly.
A year before launch, I wasn't a developer. I had spent nine years at one company in an implementation role. Then office politics took over. My work stopped being credited, my days filled up with copy-paste tasks, at one point I had to log every break I took, and finally a performance-improvement-plan email arrived out of nowhere. I knew what I was capable of, but I had lost my confidence.
So in 2025 I did the one thing nobody could take away from me: I started learning. HTML, then CSS, then JavaScript, on my own. As practice, I gave myself a project: rebuild a popular PDF tool from scratch. Somewhere along the way, my own ideas started taking over.
Why should signing an offer letter or self-attesting an Aadhaar copy mean uploading it to a server you know nothing about?
That question became the product. In India, almost every form asks for a self-attested Aadhaar or PAN copy, a signed document, or a PDF squeezed under 100 KB, and most free tools want you to upload exactly those documents. DocuSmartly does the work in your browser instead.
In February 2026 I showed it to a few people. They said it felt different, simpler and more thoughtful. DocuSmartly launched on 28 April 2026. Building it gave me my confidence back, and every message from someone who used it to finish a form in two minutes still makes my day.
Your file stays with you. Split & Merge, Compress, Sign, Images to PDF, PDF to Images and PDF to TIFF run entirely in your browser. Those files are never uploaded.
We say when a server is involved. A few tools genuinely need one: Word, PowerPoint and Excel to PDF, PDF to Word and Excel, Protect PDF, and AI features like Smart Extract. Each is labelled Server or AI on the tool itself. The file travels over HTTPS, is processed in a temporary folder and deleted as soon as you get your result. Saved OCR batches are the one exception: they are kept so you can review and export them, and deleted automatically within 24 hours. Aadhaar and PAN documents are never sent to any AI service.
