Repair PDF

Fix PDFs that won't open, or open with blank pages and missing text: broken downloads, damaged files, and "PDFs" that are really web pages or images. Repair runs on your device first, and nothing is uploaded unless you choose.

How to use this tool — guide & FAQ

How to repair a corrupted PDF

A PDF usually stops opening because the download or copy stopped early, the file's internal page index got damaged, or the "PDF" was never a PDF at all, such as a website's error page saved with a .pdf name. This tool checks which of these happened, repairs what can be repaired, and tells you in plain words what went wrong.

Steps

  1. Drop the PDF that won't open.
  2. Read the diagnosis and how many pages came back.
  3. Download the repaired PDF. If pages are missing, you can choose to try the stronger server repair.

What can and can't be fixed

A broken page index, extra data in front of the file, and most interrupted saves can usually be fixed completely. If a download was cut off, the pages that arrived can be recovered, but pages that never downloaded are not in the file at all. Download it again if you can.

How your file is handled

Checking and repairing run inside your browser, so the file is not uploaded. The server repair only runs if you tick the consent box and click the button. The file is then sent over HTTPS, repaired, and deleted right away. Please don't use the server option for Aadhaar, PAN or other ID documents.

FAQs

Is it free? Yes. No watermark and no sign-up.

Why does it say my PDF is a web page? The website sent an error or login page instead of the document, and your browser saved it as .pdf. Log in again and download it once more.

Will the text stay selectable? Usually yes. If pages had to be recovered as images, the result says so. Run OCR on it to make the text searchable again.

Can it remove a PDF password? No. Protected files keep their password after repair.
